5 Ways to Effectively Up Your Email Game and Get Hired

5 Ways to Effectively Up Your Email Game and Get Hired 5 Ways to Effectively Up Your Email Game and Get Hired More than 2.5 billion peoplein the world use emaille today, and more than2.5 million emails are sent every single second. In fact, 61 percent of people report email to be very important for their job compared to 54 percent of people who expressthe same sentiment about the internet.More likely than not, you will have to use email in your next job search. Whether youre reaching out to the person who will be making the hiring decision or following up after an interview, having stellar email skills will definitely improve your chances of getting hired. Here are some tips for you1. Emailing The Right Person + Personalization = Email SuccessYou are probably familiar with emails that take the following formatHi,Id like to reach out to see if youre looking to hire position at X Company.I have degree and experience 1 and experience 2, and I think I will be the best fit for you.I loo k forward to discussing more if youre interested.Warm Regards,MarkWhile fruchtwein people assume that emails like this are best because they areshort and concise, there areactually two problems with this format. First, the emailis often sent to the wrong person or to a generic email address. This is a recipe for failure. Second, it lacks personalization. Now, think about this modified versionHi John,Id like to reach out to see if youre looking to hire position at X Company. Im a long-time follower and admirer, and I feel I will really align with your goals and values such as X and X.I have degree and experience 1 and experience 2, which makes me the ideal candidate for helping X Company achieve the goals of X and X.I look forward to discussing more and sending you my C.V. if youre interested.Warm Regards,MarkNot only is this more personal, but also it includes more information on how you will align with the company values and help the organization achieve its goals. It is also being sent to the right person. To increase your chances of getting hired, make sure you reach out to the right person. Ideally, this would be a key decision maker in charge of the department you want to work at. Avoid sending your email to a generic address if possible. Personalize your emails by including that persons anthroponym and by letting the person know that youre familiar withthem.2. Sending the Did You See My Email? Follow-Up Will Yield More ResponsesWe established earlier that more than2.5 million emails are sent every second. If you can count on one thing, it is the fact that the inbox of the person youre reaching out to is overwhelmed with both relevant and irrelevant emails.Every single other email in that inbox helps to drown yours out.Due to how busy our email inboxes are especially those of decision makers many people fail tofollow up when they dont get a response, or they follow up too late. This is simply a mistake.Following up can significantly boost your chances of getting a response, but it has to be done right. In a study of 16 billion emails involving 2 million users, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering found that 90 percent of people wont respond to an email after 48 hours. That means ifthere has been no response to your email after 48 hours, there will most likely never be a response. So whats the best thing to do? Follow up.3. Sending the Thank You Follow-Up Will Increase Your Chances of Getting HiredUnfortunately, many candidates have lost out on jobs because theyignored this seemingly unimportant type of follow-up email.According to research from CareerBuilder, a good 22 percent of hiring managers are unlikely to hire a candidate who didnt send a thank-you email after aninterview. This is because they feel that the candidate either isnt really serious about the opportunity or doesnt have good follow-through skills.Be sure to always follow up after an interview to thank your interviewer. Not only is this a great way to leave a good imp ression, but also it shows that you are conscientious a trait many recruiters look forin candidates.4. The KISS PrincipleIn an experiment involving 1,000 executivesfrom the Fortune 500 and Inc 500 lists, Contentlycofounder Shane Snow found that two key factors influenced email open and response rates radiosender name and subject line. Now, you cant do much about your sender name, but you can do a lot about your subject line. The first thing to understand about busy people is that they are, well, busy. Keeping things simple will lead to better responses for you. Snows experiment found that short, curiosity-driven subject lines will result in more opens than longer subject lines will.Similarly, you shouldkeepthe email itself short and simple. If there are key facts you want to highlight, use bullet points to highlight them.5. Use Technology and Automation to Make Your Job EasyMost importantly, you want to know what is working and what isnt. The good thing about email is that a lot can be automated these days. Many email apps, like Boomerang, Sidekick, and Yesware, will let you track opens, schedule your emails in advance, and automate follow-ups if you dont get a response. Make use of these apps to instantly give yourself email superpowers. John Stevens is the founder and CEO of Hosting Facts.

How to Change Accounting Methods Using IRS Form 3115

How to Change Accounting Methods Using IRS fasson 3115How to Change Accounting Methods Using IRS Form 3115The Internal Revenue Service allows businesses to use either the accrual accounting method or the cash accounting methodto track and report financial data. Business owners also have the option of using a combination of both accounting systems. Theres a lot of flexibility here, but theres one catch- you must continue to use whatever method you choose when you first inform the IRS that youve elected to track and report that way during the first year of your business operation. It isnt quite as carved-in-granite as it sounds, however. You can reach out to the IRS in advance and request permission to change accounting methods. As long as you do so, you should be fine, but failure to make the request can result in penalties imposed by the IRS. Getting IRS Approval If you elect to change things up at any time after youve platzdeckchen up your accounting method and filed your first business income tax return, you must file a current Form 3115 to request the change. It is the case whether you want to change your overall accounting method or just the accounting treatment of any particular item. Changes in accounting methods that require approval from the IRS include switching from a cash basis method to an accrual basis method or vice versa- switching from an accrual basis method to a cash basis method. You must also request an official OK from the IRS to make a change in the method or basis used to value your inventory. Changes in your depreciation or amortization methods generally require approval, but some changes in the straight-line method are permitted without special permission from the IRS. If youre unsure if your situation qualifies for this special dispensation, consult with a business tax professional to make sure because the rules are complex. When and Where to File Form 3115 You can request approval for a change in accounting methods in one of t wo ways. File Form 3115 in duplicate for an automatic change request. Attach the original Form 3115 to your federal income tax return for the year of the change, including extensions. A copy of Form 3115 must also be filed with the IRS National Office no earlier than the first day of the year of the change and no later than when the original is filed with the federal income tax return for the year of change. The process is similar for an advance consent request.Form 3115 must be filed during the tax year for which the change is requested. According to the IRS, If the tax year is a short period, file Form 3115 by the last day of the short tax year. File the Form 3115 with the IRS National Office.Form 3115 should be filed as early as possible during the year of change to provide adequate time for the IRS to respond prior to the due date of the filers return for the year of change.
